Currently, ultrasonography is the most common method of confirming the diagnosis of leiomyomas, but MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) may prove to be the most useful method because it can often distinguish leiomyomas from other intramural lesions.

MRI scans also provide an excellent picture of the uterus.
But usually the cost of the exam is not justified, since all of the information needed to plan treatment can be obtained by other methods which are previously described.
